Introduction to the Historical Percpective of the Darfur Crisis
When looking at the history of Sudan, we quickly realise that the country has mainly knew war for over 50 years (darfurdreamteam, 2015, par.2). Indeed, the country has had difficulty to maintain peace from the very moment it obtained its independence in 1956. To truly understand the depth and historical reasons behind the Darfur Crisis that has begun in 2003 and is still causing many deaths today, it is imperative to look back at the previous civil wars and conflicts amongst the various tribes of the country. (darfurdreamteam, 2015, par.1) This will allow us to truly understand the events that lead to impasse of the conflict we are facing today.
Although the Darfur conflict is relatively recent the issue can go back to the moment Darfur joined this colony under the British in 1916 (Kane, 2005, p.322). Therefore understanding the impact of the period of colonialism on the country, the agreements concluded after the First and the Second Civil war and finally the Darfur crisis itself must be further analysed to truly understand the depth of this terrible conflict and possibly discover a future resolution of the issue.
